Acupuncture for Periods & Hormonal Health in Sunderland

Support for irregular, heavy or painful periods, PMS,  PCOS (now PMOS), endometriosis and adenomyosis

Too many women are told painful, heavy or unpredictable periods are "just part of being a woman", or spend years waiting for answers - often that answer is to be thrown on the contraceptive pill, which will mask the problem and make it worse when you come off the pill.

You deserve to be listened to, and to have support that takes how you feel seriously

This may be for you if:

You're periods are irregular, absent or unpredictable

You're periods are heavy, long or painful

You have migraines or headaches related to your cycle

PMS affects your mood, sleep or relationships

You're living with PMOS (formerly PCOS), endometriosis or adenomyosis and want support alongside your medical care

Having a period wipes you out and leaves energy levels and motivation on the floor

During treatment with Acupuncture, together we look at:

Your story – a full consultation about how you're feeling, your sleep, digestion, energy, menstrual cycle history and diagnosed conditions, using a Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis to build your treatment plan.  Always working alongside your GP/Consultant and any medication or treatment they've prescribed, never instead of

Regulate your period - reducing pain and discomfort, hormonal mood variations, clots and bleeds that are too heavy or too light

Treatment built around you - no two women experience their cycle the same way, so your treatment is planned around your symptoms and adjusted as things change.  Tracking your cycle together, noticing patterns in your bleeding, pain and mood, and timing treatment to each phase

Sleep, energy and stress - your sleep patterns and energy through the day, and the changes that could help.  How stress affects your cycle and symptoms, with treatment that many people find deeply calming

PMS and mood – how your mood, energy and sleep shift through the month, and what helps you feel more like yourself

Living with a diagnosis – if you have PMOS (formerly PCOS), endometriosis or adenomyosis, support alongside your medical care, focused on the symptoms that affect you most

Lifestyle – your nutrition, movement, rest and relaxation, and realistic changes to aid your acupuncture treatment.  Evidence based supplementation that can help.

How often

I usually recommend weekly sessions to start, ideally for at least your first 6 - 8 treatments, timed to the different phases of your cycle: your period, the lead-up to ovulation, ovulation itself, and the second half of your cycle.  For cycle related symptoms, this lets me see you at the different points in your cycle, and time treatment around the days you find the hardest.

f weekly isn't possible, fortnightly is fine.  It just means things build more gradually.  If your history is more complex, for example you have endometriosis, PMOS (formerly PCOS) or ademyosis, I'd encourage weekly sessions for longer.

Your first appointment

We'll go through your cycle, symptoms, general health and any diagnosis or investigations you've had.  I'll look over test results and suggest anything worth discussing with your GP or Gynaecologist , and alongside any medication you're currently taking, never instead of them.

We'll also talk about sleep, stress, nutrition and lifestyle, as these often play a part in how you're feeling.

Between sessions

I'll ask you to keep a record of your cycle, including your temperature and any symptoms, also a record of how you've been with sleep and energy etc.  This helps me see patterns over time and shape each treatment around them.  Every session starts with a catch-up, and I'll always explain what I'm doing and why.

New to acupuncture?

If you're nervous about needles, please don't let that put you off.  They're very fine, we go at your pace, and making sure you're comfortable throughout is my priority.  I always encourage you to ask any questions you might have and to let me know how you're feeling.
