Fertility Acupuncture for Natural Conception in Sunderland

Support while you're trying to conceive naturally, or preperation before going though IVF

Trying to conceive can be a stressful, overwhelming time.  The wise words of social media and well-meaning friends and family can become exhausting – do this, take that, go here, spin round 5 times.

There’s the relentless tracking, medical appointments, feeling like your body has become a project. Then the emotional navigation: feeling guilt at other people’s pregnancy announcements, the gut- wrenching disappointment when your period arrives.

Let me help you cut through the noise and work with you during what can be a lonely and confusing time.  We’ll work alongside the care you’re receiving from your GP or Fertility Clinic and what you want to acheive.

I’ve supported people through every stage, from first months of trying and into pregnancy.

Acupuncture for Natural Conception may help if:

You’re about to start trying to conceive and would like to correct potential menstrual cycle issues, reduce your stress and put some time in preparing your body for successful conception and pregnancy

You’ve been trying to conceive for a while and would like to understand more about your fertility health

You’re tests came back ‘normal’ with a comment of unexplained infertility and you would like to explore what that means for you

You have a diagnosis that affects your fertility, such as PCOS (now named PMOS), endometriosis, adenomyosis, anovulation or blood work that has come back unfavourably – low AMH, high FSH

You’re finding it hard to conceive again after already having children

You’ve experienced miscarriage and want support as you recover physically and emotionally, before you try again

You’re considering IVF and would like support while you weigh up your options

During treatment with Acupuncture for Natural Conception, we focus on:

Your cycle and ovulation – tracking your cycle together and correcting defects in the follicular & luteal phase  to support consistent and quality ovulation, proper shedding of the lining, optimal uterine health for implantation and correct balance of hormones

Regulate your period - reducing pain, hormonal mood variations, clots and bleeds that are too heavy or too light

Egg & Sperm health – looking at the factors that influence egg and sperm health, so you can be prepared from the start of the process. If you are conceiving with a male partner, their fertility matters just as much, so we review their test results and lifestyle factors too.

Inflammation and immune health –taking into account any inflammatory or immune factors in your history and how they might fit into your fertility picture.  Correcting these imbalances and lowering the inflammation, to support implantation

Mental health and emotional stress – making space for how you’re feeling, with treatment that is deeply calming and can help you process your feelings properly.

General health – your reproductive health is a reflection of your general health.  We look at all factors including your sleep patterns, energy levels, digestive health, blood sugar balance, headaches, stress levels, and the changes that could help alongside the acupuncture

Lifestyle – your nutrition, movement, rest and relaxation, and realistic changes to prepare your body for conception.  Evidence based supplementation that can help.

How often should I come for treatment?

I usually recommend weekly sessions to start, ideally for at least your first 4 treatments, timed to the different phases of your cycle: your period, the lead-up to ovulation, ovulation itself, and the second half of your cycle.  This lets me analyse each stage and adjust treatment to what's happening at the time.  After that, we'll review together and can move to fortnightly if that suits you better.

If weekly isn't possible, fortnightly is fine.  It just means things build more gradually.

As a guide:

  • Fortnightly:  Steady, longer-term support (around £150 per month)

  • Weekly:  When timing matters, for example your first month, during an IVF cycle or if your history is more complex, such as being aged 38 or over, have endometriosis, PMOS (formerly PCOS) or previous miscarriage, I'd encourage weekly sessions for longer.  (around £300 per month)

These are follow-on session costs.  Your first consultation (£99) is separate and includes your first treatment

Eggs take around three months to develop before ovulation, so I usually recommend working together for at least 3-4 cycles.  This gives your body, and any changes you make, time to respond, and lets us see how you respond across several cycles.  It also lets us work out any issues that may affect implantation.  Every person is different, pregnancy often can occur sooner, sometimes treatment needs to be longer.

Your first appointment

We'll go through your full reproductive and general health history.  I'll look over any test results you have and suggest anything worth discussing with your GP or fertility clinic.  I work alongside any medical care you're receiving, never instead of it.

We'll also talk about lifestyle and any evidence based supplements that might benefit you.   Because your reproductive health is a reflection of your general health and is important too, we'll look at anything else going on, such as digestion issues, stress, anxiety, poor sleep or headaches, as part of your treatment.

Between sessions

I'll ask you to keep a record of your cycle, including your temperature and any symptoms, also a record of how you've been with sleep and energy etc.  This helps me see patterns over time and shape each treatment around them.  Every session starts with a catch-up, and I'll always explain what I'm doing and why.

New to acupuncture?

If you're nervous about needles, please don't let that put you off.  They're very fine, we go at your pace, and making sure you're comfortable throughout is my priority.  I always encourage you to ask any questions you might have and to let me know how you're feeling.
