Calm, non-judgemental support for low mood, anxiety and feeling out of sorts
Life takes it's toll on all of us, however "good" things look from the outside or however supportive the people around you are. It's easy to plod on, feeling not quite right and telling yourself it'll pass. Sometimes headaches, aches or unsettled stomach come along too, and we don't think to connect them with how we're feeling.
Asking for help can feel hard. There can be guilt or shame, the thought "what have I got to be down about?", and that only keeps us struggling for longer. My treatment room is a safe, non-judgemental space where you don;t have to explain or justify how you feel.
This may be for you if:

You feel anxious, on edge or constantly "switched on" and can't seem to wind down

Your mood is low or flat, or you just don't feel like yourself. You're more irritable than usual, or your mood swings more than you'd like

You've been running on empty and stress is starting to take over

You get regular headaches or migraines

You're sleeping badly, struggling to drop off, waking in the night or waking unrefreshed

Your digestion is unsettled, especially when you're stressed

You feel tense, achy or tired most of the time
During treatment with Acupuncture, together we look at:

Your story – a full consultation about how you're feeling, your sleep, digestion, energy and diagnosed conditions, using a Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis to build your treatment plan. Always working alongside your GP/Consultant and any medication or treatment they've prescribed, never instead of

Calm and relaxation - treatment that many people find deeply calming, in a space just for you

Low mood and anxiety - how anxiety and low mood show up in your body, such as tension, racing thoughts, feelings of doom, poor sleep or feeling drained, with treatment focused on helping you feel calmer and more settled

Sleep and energy - your sleep patterns and energy through the day, and the changes that could help

Stress - how stress affects you physically and emotionally and work to improve that response

Headaches and migraines – tracking when your headaches come on, what tends to set them off, and planning a course of treatment around your pattern

Digestive health - how your digestion responds to stress, your eating patterns and routines, and the small changes that could help your gut feel more settled
If you're severely struggling right now - contact your GP, call NHS 111, or call Samaritans free on 116 123, day or night. In an emergency, call 999
If you're taking medication for anxiety or depression, acupuncture can be used alongside it. Please don't stop or change any medication without speaking to your GP first
Speak to your GP if you have new, severe or worsening headaches, or ongoing stomach pain or changes in your bowel habits
How often
I usually recommend weekly sessions to start, for around 4 treatments, so we can get a clear picture of your symptoms and how you respond. After that, we'll review together and space sessions out to fortnightly, then monthly, if that suits you. Once things have settled, you can stop treatment, although some people like to keep a regular session as dedicated time to look after themselves.
Your first appointment
We'll talk through how you've been feeling, your sleep, digestion, energy and anything else going on, so I can build a treatment plan around you. If you're taking medication or receiving support from your GP or a therapist, acupuncture can be used alongside it. Please don't stop or change any medication without first speaking to your GP.
Between sessions
Every session starts with a short catch up on how your week has been, and i'll always explain what I'm doing and why. I may suggest small, practical changes to try between sessions, but there's no pressure.
New to acupuncture?
If you're nervous about needles, please don't let that put you off. They're very fine, we go at your pace, and making sure you're comfortable throughout is my priority. I always encourage you to ask any questions you might have and to let me know how you're feeling.
